Cabaret is an artform featuring music, song, dance, and drama, usually performed in restaurants, pubs, and nightclubs.

In India, Cabaret found popular appeal through Hindi cinema. At the helm of the Cabaret scene was Helen, the sensational dancer who captured the imagination of a whole nation through her portrayals. Getting her big break in 1957 with "Mera Naam Chin Chin Chu", she sizzled in such unforgettable numbers like "Piya Tu Ab Toh Aaja", "Yeh Mera Dil", "O Haseena Zulfo Vaali", along side such stars like Shammi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan.

Helen's most frequent playback, Asha Bhosle, is another name that added dimensions to the Cabaret scene. Legend has it that Helen used to send Asha Bhosle chocolates after every number they made together. Along with them, such other names like Bindu, Aruna Irani, and Jayshree, more often than not to the enchanting scores of R.D. Burman, made the act of going to the movies a great pleasure.

It wasn't just their dance or singing that cast an effect; it was the glamour with which they presented life, the courage with which they rubbished aside all ordinariness, and the romance that they spilled forth that enthralled the audiences.

Through their performances they conveyed how to live in the maximum sense.
